Coastyear is run by CoastYear, Portland, Oregon, USA. By using this site you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use it.
What the calculators are
Coastyear provides retirement planning calculators for general education. We are not a registered investment adviser, broker-dealer, financial planner, or tax or legal professional. Using the site doesn't create an advisory or any other professional relationship.
Projections are hypothetical. They are based on the assumptions you entered and on historical market data, do not reflect actual investment results, and are not guarantees of future results. Results may vary with each use and over time. See our methodology for assumptions and limitations. This is not investment, tax, or legal advice.
The calculators apply the same published formulas to everyone, and the results depend only on what you enter. They don't recommend any security, fund or investment strategy. The methodology page explains how every number is worked out.
Your decisions
You're responsible for the numbers you enter and for any decision you make. Results are only as good as the assumptions behind them, and real returns, inflation, taxes and your own circumstances will differ from any projection. For decisions with lasting consequences, consider getting advice from a qualified professional.
No guarantees
We work to keep the calculators accurate, but we provide the site as is, without warranties of any kind, including that it will be accurate, complete, available or free of errors. When we improve the method, the same inputs may give different results, and shared links may show an updated result.
Limits on our liability
To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential loss arising from your use of the site, including investment losses or decisions made using its results. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and $500.
Links to other sites
Some pages link to other sites, including affiliate partners described in our disclosures. We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for their content, products or privacy practices.
Acceptable use
Please don't misuse the site: no attempts to break or overload it, sign other people up for emails, or get around its limits. We may block access that does any of these.
Our content
The text, design and code of Coastyear belong to us. You're welcome to share your results and link to any page. Historical market returns are derived from data published by Robert J. Shiller.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed, and continuing to use the site means you accept the current version.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Oregon, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute about them goes to the state or federal courts in Multnomah County, Oregon. Nothing here takes away rights you have under the consumer protection laws where you live.
